ATF Determination Update

In a recent letter to us the ATF has chose to revise the determination letter concerning our 80% Lower Receivers. We will be required to omit the safety selector hole to conform with the rest of the industry. We were seen as having an unfair advantage over the rest of the industry concerning the 80% Lower Receivers we were manufacturing.

There will be no penalty for possessing, completing or purchasing the old style 80% Lower Receiver. The ATF has given us permission to sell the remaining items in back stock and we will be required to manufacture our new 80% Lowers without the safety selector.

Tactical Machining is dedicated to providing high quality parts for the home builder and will be modifying our jigs and 80% Lower Receivers to accommodate the new setup. We will modify side plates you have purchased from us in the past. We only ask that you pay for shipping. We will add a drill bushing into the jigs to allow for drilling of the safety selector.

    Dear TM,

I understand that you won’t likely be able to fight the ATF on the 80% lowers decision through legal means, but since when have they been the arbiters of fairness in the market place. They came to the conclusion that your components were NOT receivers and now without legitimate reason they have chosen to reclassify them. This seems fundamentally wrong, let your competition figure it out, it’s not the ATF’s job to level the playing field. While I am sure that it is not in your interest to fight the ATF on this, you should call them on it and perhaps ask your congressman and senator to intervene on what is clearly a decision that is based on criteria that the ATF should not be using in the evaluation of what is or is not a receiver. I sincerely hope that you do contact your legislators, as this will impact your ability to contribute to the economic recovery and your ability to compete fairly in the marketplace with an innovative product. It is not your fault that your competitors did not submit a sample that included the safety selector.

    Respectfully,

    Mark

I have noticed on your competitors lowers that they don’t include the safety selector hole, but also start the hole/slot for the rear take down lug on the upper. So are your competitors going to be told not to due this, “unfair advantage” on their lowers??? I agree with Mark on this one.

How many receivers with the selector hole drilled do you have in stock? Any without the magwell broached? :)

Unfortunately we do not have any AR-15 style 80% lower receivers with the selector hole drilled… we sold out of them just recently. Anything sent in the future will have the safety selector emitted…. We do have a few 80% .308 Lowers with the selector hole drilled however…

  5. Craig says:

Will you continue to drill the selector detent hole? This was one of items that I found worth waiting for you to have 80%s in stock instead of buying from someone else.

  6. junior says:

The selector detent will continue to be drilled
