How long before the ATF ends this too?

I've been looking around for 60% 1911 frames, and I just got a response back from one of the last providers of thiese frames. He said he is waiting for new ATF guidelines, and that he doesn't know when he'll be able to sell any more. What I'm thinking is, with this new Chicago mob ATF director, mayb...

Re: jig help before i destroy something

I'm probably not the best person to respond to this, but I got one lower done so far, and I can at least tell you what I found. It's really important to not tighten both master plate screws until you've snugged the jig in your vise. I also found that, unless you're looking into the jig directly abov...

How I fixed the floor penetration problem

I wanted to start this on a new thread to make sure you guys see this. The last thread I started was about how I went through the floor of my lower. Like I said, I wanted to cry, because I knew I would pay hell with my wife trying to get another lower right away, so my only option seemed (at the tim...

Went through the bottom; Did I ruin it?

I don't know exactly what happened here. I was using a Grizzly mini-mill with a 3/8" 2-flute end mill. I had about 3/4 of the depth perfectly hogged out (didn't do rear shelf yet), and I plunged the last quarter-inch and conventinal-milled it. 3/4 of the way done, I vacuumed out the chips one last t...

Re: Milling with a drill press

Can anybody who has done an 80% receiver with a drill press respond with some guidance for a first-timer?

Milling with a drill press

Hi ! I was reading a post about one guy who was considering making a drilling guide similar to the one that CNC offers (the one with a bunch of 1/8" holes in it, which allows milling with a drill press), and you had advised him that all he needs to do is drill within your guide plates. I was thinkin...

Re: Jig Plate Mounting Dimensions?

I was thinking of that myself. I was looking at the CNC site instructions for using the milling plate (with the 30-something little holes in it), and I was thinking "why can't I just do a bunch of 1/8-inch holes free-hand (maybe use a straight-edge rule and a fine marker or punch), then drill them o...
