80% Lower Receivers: Direct from the Manufacturer

Tactical Machining has defined the industry standard for 80% lower receivers since 2008. We manufacture everything in-house, giving us complete control over quality, tolerances, and materials. Whether you are building a Mil-Spec AR-15, a heavy-duty AR-10, or a specialized AR-9, our receivers start with premium American-sourced 7075-T6 aluminum.

Precision Manufacturing & Raw Materials

Quality starts at the source. We do not re-brand imported castings. We machine our receivers from 7075-T6 aluminum forgings or solid billet bar stock. 7075-T6 is the gold standard for aerospace and firearms applications due to its exceptional strength-to-weight ratio and corrosion resistance. Our CNC centers are programmed to hold critical dimensions—such as the takedown pin lugs, buffer tower threading, and magazine well—to strict tolerances, ensuring your finished build functions reliably with standard Lower Parts Kits (LPK) and uppers.

Forged vs. Billet: Choosing Your Foundation

Forged 80% Lowers: The forging process compresses the aluminum's grain structure, resulting in superior directional strength. This is the Mil-Spec standard for durability and is the ideal choice for duty rifles or hard-use builds.

Billet 80% Lowers: Machined from a solid block of aluminum, billet receivers allow for unique aesthetic profiles, integrated trigger guards, and flared magwells that forging dies cannot create. Billet offers a custom look and feel for precision bench-rest or competition rifles.

What is an 80% Lower?

An 80% lower is a receiver blank that has not been fully machined. Specifically, the fire control pocket has not been milled out, and the safety selector and trigger pin holes have not been drilled. Because it is not functional, the ATF does not classify it as a firearm. This allows home builders and hobbyists to purchase the unit directly without an FFL transfer and personally complete the machining using a compatible jig and router or drill press.
